Drag Queen Beauty and the Piggy-Girl
According to “Bishonen Law” every bishonen boy must fall in love with the first girl who hits him. In this series Nuriko gets bold faced slapped by Miaka (Nuriko actually started the slapping but that's beside the point) and so began their love affair. Of course at the time Nuriko was parading around as a girl (a beautiful girl at that) Later on in the series we see how Nuriko's friendship for Miaka deepened into love as they faced pain and danger together. But we know nothing of Nuriko's true feelings until the search for the Shinzaho. When waiting for Tamahome to return, Nuriko hints at his true feelings but chooses instead to keep them to himself. Later when cheering up Tamahome he straight out states "Be careful or someone will take her from you....Me" and even later "As a man I do love Miaka"
Did they get together?
Well no. Miaka was stuck on Tama-chan or flirting with Hotohori and Nuriko was so considerate of their feelings that Nuriko never pursued her. That would have been an interesting spectacle if he ever did.
Would it have lasted?
May be. We will never know. Poor Nuriko's life was cut short. But if they did get together I think Nuriko would have been good for Miaka. I mean he is beautiful. drop dead beautiful, strong and protective, sensitive and Fun, loyal and sweet (he brought her food when she was upset about Tama-chan, He always tried to cheer her up about him too.)
